Is five days good to see Rome, Venice, Milan, Sicily, Capri, and other Italian places?

Yes, it's possible, but not recommended. If you want whirlwind tour of Italy, the fastest, plausible method is to hit a guided tour site and see their itineraries. Look in the five day tours to get a feel for the pace (most likely too rushed). And then think about the logistics required for that (means it cost a lot of money and planning to duplicate). And when you read the reviews of these tours, you'll see even those trips usually do not give you a great travel experience.

You'd be better off enjoying one or two cities in your five days, so you can savor them individually. Here, some tour sites will give you a good guide to what to see as well.

We basically used this method to plan our itinerary, cutting some sites out (like visiting dead people, etc.), and using the Frommer's guides for planning more shopping time and researching good restaurants.

We did four cities (Rome-Florence-Pisa- Venice-Rome) using our frequent flier miles and it took ten days (Pisa was a day trip). Our intent though, was to return someday, so we were ok about zipping around everywhere, to scout out the areas, so to speak.

We took full advantage of the euro train travel during off hours (typically early-bird travel to take advantage of the slow mornings - most trips are no longer than 4 hours), credit cards, and ATM machines at the train stations (always withdraw money before you board, to prevent tailers from following you).

Hotels near the trains stations will help with speeding travel, luggage drops and check-in (we did that), but know that the 5-stars are typically not that near transport nodes (ours were decent 3-stars).

I think five days is good to see ROME. Period. If you figure that the first and last days are travelling in and out of Rome, and it takes about a day to get to Venice, or Milan, or Sicily, or Capri from there, (or from any one of those to another, including settling in to a hotel) you need, easliy, six days, just for travel. Nope. pare it down to Rome, and maybe on side trip.

Besides not being good, it is virtually impossible. You would spend all of your time traveling to these places, and you would see nothing.

I run a tour company that exclusively specializes in doing tours in Italy, and it is extremely common for our guests to ask questions like this when planning their trips. Of course, everyone has limited time, and Italy has so much to offer. Who can blame them. Here is how I answer this question:

Imagine someone called you from a foreign country and said they want to visit the United States for a week. They say that in those seven days, they want to see:

* New York City
* The Grand Canyon
* Disneyworld
* New Orleans
* San Francisco
* Yellowstone
* Las Vegas

What would you tell them?

Of course, these are all wonderful places to visit, but it just cannot be done in a week, right? No matter how determined that person is, it just cannot be done. And even if they had FOUR weeks in the US, they couldn't go to all of those places and do them justice, could they?

It is the same thing with Italy. Yes, it is a small country, but there is so much packed into it, that you cannot do it all with limited time.

That said, I would suggest that you do just Rome, or at most just Rome and Capri (which also gives you The Amalfi Coast).

No! To visit that many places you need much more time. Sicily is a long way from Milan. You would need a month to do all those cities justice. I would at least decide if you want to visit the north - Milan, Venice and Florence or the the south Rome, Sicily and Capri. Then decide which cities you most want to see. In five days you will only be able to visit 2 or 3 cities.

Um, are you serious? 5 days is not even enough to see Rome. You are going to spend 95% of your time traveling from city to city. Just stick to 1-2 cities and visit them thoroughly. Do you think I could visit Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago and New York in 5 days?

The only way of seeing all that in 5 days is to have a helicopter and fly over it all.

I have been to Rome 7 times, the last time I was there for 6 days. I only saw the museums on that trip. I'm going back in June for 9 days, and this time I'll be seeing the 'outside' stuff I haven't seen yet. Just to see Rome properly, you need about 2 months. Venice needs about 1 month to see everything. Capri would be about a week. I haven't been to Sicily yet, but I think it would take about a month to see it all thoroughly.

five days? you have go to be kidding. allow at least three days per city on the mainland. you can send another month trying to see Sicilia. Venice alone with the outer islands can be at least a week

Absolutely not! I think if your going to Italy you need at least three days in each city to see everything, and spend time in the museums, curches, and to see the amazing art and sculptures. More if you want time to take in everything the cities have to offer. Italy is amazing! If your going the go there you need to at least take the time to enjoy the art, the people, and the culture!

Even if you don't sleep, 5 days is not enough to see all of that. You'll enjoy Italy so much more if you pick a couple of places and spend your time there. Rome is 3 to 5 days by itself. Venice is 2 or 3. Milan and Sicily are about as far apart as you can get in Italy so count on a day just to travel between those places. To see everything on your list you'll need 2 weeks plus....

At least 1 month if you want to see that and also other places! You need at least 3 days for Venice, 4 for Rome, 2 for Milan, 1 week for Sicily, 2 days for Capri. Not to mention the distance. From Milan to Sicily it's a 24 hours drive!

In 5 days you'll visit only Rome.
You need 1 or 2 days to visit Venice,
1 or 2 days to visit Milan
I don't yet visit Capri but i feel you need 1 day.
Sicily is a region with many tourist attraction. To visit all Sicily you need 2/3 weeks.
Other Cities? I suggest you Florence. You can visit Florence in 1 or 2 days + 1 day for museums (Galleria degli Uffizi or Galleria Palatina or Bargello and Palazzo Pitti).
You can also visit Naples 1 or 2 day.
For 1 day i mean 16/18 hours walking.
