Is it expensive to live in Milan?

I want to move to Milan for a year or so. What kind of price would I be looking at to rent a flat in the city (not necessarily centre but not too far out)? Does anybody know? Nothing extravagant or anything!

I'm Italian and during the week I live in Milan. If you are young you can share a flat near university with other students..because it's a bit expensive living in Milan!

so a single room (in a shared flat) costs 400 euros, or 250 a double room... you should look at university websites, for example: http://www.unimi.it

http://www.unibocconi.it

http://www.polimi.it

in some websites you can find also english version...

Milan is a very expensive city. The rents vary a lot depending on the suburb. A flat with two bedrooms and kitchen and sitting room in a nice area will cost you a minimum of Euro 1000.

That price is also unfurnished and when they say unfurnished in italy they mean just that. They normally even take the light bulbs, the kitchen fittings and everything else - including the shower curtain in the first flat I rented.

Lala - the city is expensive. Try to find a room instead with a family or with some students.... Or with other expats doing the same you want to do.
The British & American Chambers have some post borads where other expats are lookinmg for "flat" mates. Try the other English speaking consolates in Milan too(Australian, New Zealand, Malta....). There are alos several expat clubs in Milan that you can net work with - to find out more contact the nice folks at: http://www.italycocchinirelocation.it/home.html

Ask about expat events, clubs and where to network.

I live in Milan, and I think that Milan is a very expensive city. And I think is impossible to find a room under 500Euros (like 691$) in Milan...not only the rooms are expensive, but, for example, some restaurants too.

I'm Italian and live near Milan.
Unfortunately, it is... but you can rent a flat in little cities near it, as Rho, Monza, Varese... or in Novara...from this, you can arrive to Milan in a maximum of 40 minutes on train, but the other towns are nearer than it!
