Is it safe to travel to Scilly?

I've just heard that Mount Etna has being show a lot of volcanic activity lately. I'm meant to be going on holiday with my girlfriend there in 2 weeks. Our hotel is only about 5 miles from the volcano. Does anybofy know how safe/dangerous it is to visit there at the moment?

I went to answer this question because I thought it was about the Scilly Isles. Which are perfectly safe. But you mean Sicily, don't you ? I'm not one to go on about spelling, love, but with place names it's pretty crucial.

The Foreign Office has a website which advises on the safety of all foreign destinations. Just be careful what you type in the "search" field.

Well, as the Scilly Isles are quite a few miles from mount Etna you shouldn't have any problems.

And I wasn't aware that there were any volcanos on the Scillies, so I think you have booked your holiday in the wrong place.

Sorry. I read the heading to your question and thought where is the danger in Scilly , it's not far off the coast of Cornwall. I wondered were you worried about the helicopter trip or possibly the sea trip making you seasick. I then read the rest if your question and see you mean Sicily, near to Italy.I really don't know whether there is any danger from mount Etna. All I can suggest is you try to get as much information as you can. If you are going to be worried out of your life all the time you are there you will not enjoy the holiday very much. Holidays are meant to be relaxing. Can your travel agent arrange any form of swap to another destination?
