Definitely not. You should be covered from shoulders to knees, that's all.
There are even some friars/nuns which wear sandals or go barefoot all year long, even in winter, as a vow. |

During summer people wear sandals in Churches, casual or elegant ones (not sporty ones). Just don't wear flipflops. Usually there is a code for dresses (not too short, not too revealing)...it's a question of respect, like there are rules to visit a Mosque in Middle Eastern countries. |

I just got back from Italy on Monday. I went all over and into all different churches and wore flip flops in every single one of them. I am not sure what the attire requirement is for mass though. |

You can wear what ever shoes you want to wear, but if you go to mass then thats different then the preference is closed shoes. |
