lol - contrary to some of the answers so far, it is see Naples and die. It is not a joke. It is because once you have seen the beauty of that area you can die a happy man. It is absolutely beautiful and the coast to the south of Naples is everything you imagine it to be. Highly recommended area of the world and very beautiful in a shabby chic sort of way. Maybe not everyones cup of coffee (or bowl of pasta!) but most definitely mine. The Island of Capri just off the coast to the south of Naples, almost opposite Sorrento is absolutely awe inspiring. |

No,it's not true. It's not Florence,but Naples.
In Italian we say : "vedi Napoli e poi muori"and this surely means : SEE NAPLES AND (THEN) DIE and in a few words this means that "you are allowed to die only if you've seen Naples before" or even better "You can't die without seeing Naples". |

Vedi Napoli e poi muori is the real expression. See Naples and Die. However, it is properly translated to mean See Naples then you can die. I know this because Im backpacking there in December and I came across this expression EVERYWHERE I researched. How can you say its See Rome and Die. Rome has enough sayings (IE when in Rome...), this one is all the way napoli. I hope this was helpful. If you see Florence, youll probably be taken by it but all vital signs should be in good shape. Enjoy |

The expression is see Naples and Die. It's a joke, but you'll have to get a Neapolitan to explain it to you. |

No... it's "vedi Napoli e poi Muori" ( see Naples and die).
That's because for the napoletani Napoli was the most beautiful city....and the last thing that everyone had to do is see Naples before die. |

The saying is see ROME and die! However, I heard that Florence is the nicest place in the world. Hope to know someday.
Everyone is saying it's Naples and they'd be a lot more knowledgable than I am. So, go with them. We must have gotten it wrong. |
