to be more specific, in Florence.

Unfortunately nothing is cheaper in Italy anymore with the Euro. Prices for everything have increased. As a previous poster stated you are probably better off in an outlet store for finding better prices.

I can only imagine how expensive is in your country!
Here is very,very expensive!!!

TSmithy
No. Two reasons. Euro exchange rate and IVA tax (20%).

Aside from the weak dollar...
Yes.

When I was in Florence...
I purchased a pair of Prada sneakers for $75.
They were not Gucci, but a similar Italian designer.

These same exact sneakers were sold in the US for over $100 more. This was the same scenario for the sunglasses I purchased too...

If you can't find what you are looking for at a local Gucci outlet shop...and will be vacationing in Florence...I suggest you have a look in Italy first...before you make any retail purchases here...

banana
trust me: in italy they're not cheaper! not at all!
you may find something cheaper in other countries, but it's just because it is from former collections.
it not because valentino , gucci e prada are italian that we pay less... it's all upside down..

dlil
Only at the outlet malls outside of Florence. But then you need to factor in the exchange rate.

I don't think so, consider that I'm italian and Florence is, together with Venice, the most expensive city in Italy.

No they are not cheaper Anywhere in Italy. The best place to buy them is online.

If you do decide to buy in Italy then buy in the markets.

lara
Of course Gucci is italian. Is like Kate Moss collection in Top Shop is much cheaper then in shops in America.

I don't know whether the retail prices are cheaper here in Florence than they are in U.S. retail outlets. However, there are a few ways for you to get bargains on Gucci, Tods and other designer goods.

-- About a half hour outside of Florence there are a number of designer outlet malls. The best known for designer goods (there is Gucci, Tods, Armani, Valentino, Ferragamo, etc) is The Mall. Nearby are also individual outlets for Prada and Dolce&Gabbana. Prices here are cheaper than what you will find in the stores in Florence -- and you can get some especially good deals (compared to prices in stores) during sales times in August and January.

-- If you spend a minimum of 150 euro in any of these stores (outlet or retail) you are entitled to a refund on the value-added tax if you are not a EU citizen and don't reside within the EU. Ask before you pay for the forms to do this. It requires you to get the documents stamped at the airport upon your return (you may also have to produce the goods) and mail the form back. You generally get about a 12 percent rebate this way.

possibly but its probably more to do with exchange rates, i believe that somewhere in italy there are like designer outlet stores where you can get designer stuff cheaper but its won't be the current seasons stuff
