Is it true that the maffia is everywhere in Italia, and not just in Sicilia and Napoli? What does the police?

Mafia is also in US.

All over the world there are criminal organizations, secret societies, terrorists with different names born originally in one specific area, but relating often to other criminal realities in the area and country they came in contact with.

So in Italy were born secret societies and criminal organizations such as Mafia in Sicily in the 19th century, 'Ndrangheta in Calabria, Camorra in Campania and so on.

But all over the world there are criminal societies, terrorists and secret organizations whose action is condamned by all opposers.
In China there are Triads. in Japan criminal Yazuca groups, in UK and the United States Posses, in Russia mafia, ETA in Spain, IRA in Ireland, gangs from US, PKK from Turkey, Black Liberation Army from US, Afghani Al Qaeda and many many others (see below list).

All around the world there is good and bad, friends and enemies, depending on where you stand. It is difficult for any police to fight against this, in Italy for Mafia as in Ireland for IRA.

Many people die but the conscience of people is growing stronger and what used to be accepted 50 years ago is now unacceptable, especially for young generations.

In Italy we have more and more people reacting publically against criminal organizations, writing books, directing films, doing public speeches. All these people are in danger because Mafia and Camorra are attacked, but are also protected by thousands of people that are fed up of "not seeing, hearing, speaking".

We are all a bit police officers when we say no to this.

And it is really hard for me to understand why my fellow citizens wrote things which seem to just want to give the wrong idea to you.

I'm italian.It's hard to explain because maffia isn't a phenomen well controlled and is a big problem for Italy and Italians. My mind about ur question is this: Maffia rules everywhere and police,State are not able to stop this big plague. Another problem,in my opinion,is that often in some Italy places rules and maffia are so much linked and so collaborate. What else? Maybe we will never be able to destroy this phenomen and we will have to live with it for ever.Excuse for my englis,I hope that u can understand what I said. Bye.

i don't know where both guys over me live, (they say Italy... but how much ignorant are they?: MUCH)

i'm from Naples, and if there's a sure thing is that if u are normal person, you don't risk every time to be shooted!!!! NO! i'm not worried about that, for me, for my family and for friends either!
as newspapers and ignorant say, it looks like you left your house in the morning... and you dont know if will return back.
That's absolutely FALSE!

mafia has its headquarter in south of italy, between naples and caserta, in many places of sicily and calabria, and in puglia.
they lead drug-prostitution-guns-infrastucture-gar... markets, and they require the "pizzo" a sort of "illegal tax" to the shops, or industrial activities. if you don't pay... they makes your building burning, once, twice... then the try to shoot you.
as i said before, the headquarter is in the south, but in a restrictive way they have their center of activity in entire Italy.
in the south they operate stronger, much, and in an open way, but in the north they run their affairs too.
they (italian mafia) operate in spain, greece, and Usa too. the world trade center in NY is rebuilding with part of italian mafia money. did u know that?
mafia is linked with politics and politicians too, they make them underpressure for protecting their business.

Police try to do its work, they are working hard, stronger in the last period, but sometimes they could do more and better.
Someone of them are spies of the mafia infiltrated in the police to lead their enquirers far from the mafia-men friends.

(I'm Italian as well) I definitively agree with "Dreams?no thanks" .. Mafia is not everywhere, probably there's also in the north, but ESPECIALLY it is in the south of Italy: you innocent person could even risk to find yourself into a shooting and get killed in Napoli. The police can't do much...guess why? because sometimes EVEN the police get involved with it! yeah: a shame.

Well let me explain in the late 70's when I was in Sicily it was everywhere and if you go their today it's their but you just don't see it like you use to, it's more underground today then it use to be and you don't hear about it in the news that much anymore either.

sure... but in the south of Italy it is more visible because it kills people and so on, while in the north it isn't visible because they make their affairs without people know that...

yes there are different types of mafia and it isn't only in sicilia o a Napoli
it isn't a pubblic association, nobody say and see anything..
for this reason police can't work well..
PS:there are a lots of misunderstandings and prejudices, mafia is not like holliwood film

i'm italian and it's not true that mafia is everywhere...
it's like says that all the english are serious and love tea.. it's a common opinion but it's not true...
probably in usa there is mafia too
but this don't means that in all usa there is mafia...
