Is "La Fontana di Trevi" overrated?

no, it's just hard to absorb when it's surrounded by 1000's of tourists

its a bit overrated. its pretty, way too surrounded with tourists and stupid street vendors. if they were charging to see it, i dont know if i would want to pay for it. i think it was just neat that something like that is sitting in the middle of all these other buildings. its worth seeing if you are in the neighborhood, but dont get super hopes up.

It will be for those who will let the tourists get in the way of their appreciation of art and history. People these days look for sanitized visuals like what they see in the movies or on a photograph. Visuals devoid of other "clutter". However, if you can get past this and see the beauty of the fountain, you will not regret it.

you could visit fontana di Trevi for free... when you walk in the city

alexeverwander
Yes, but see it anyway because people will ask. Get gelato and look while you enjoy that.

I have lived in Rome for about three years and I feel a special something every time I go to visit the fountain! It is special, in my opinion and full of history! I really think it is worth going and spending sometime especially in the evening!! I have done the visit late in the night and we were almost alone!! This was after 11 pm! Enjoy it!

Rome is always full of turistc, in any time of the year and particular monument, such as Fontana di Trevi, Colosseo, Piazza di Spagna, etc, are always overrated.. Just be patient and you can take your own pictures.. Cheers

It's free, it's in the middle of the city, and it's definitly impressive by US standards, so I would say its worth it, but I wouldn't spend hours going out of my way to see it.

I'd say yes because it's so surrounded by tourists all the time that's it's hard to get a good picture... or at least it was when I was there. It's a beautiful fountain, though. Definitely a spot to see.
