What are the best places to go to in Italy besides Rome, Florence and Venice. I also thinking of going to Greece for 6-7 days along with Italy.

Yes, May is a good time, it is not too hot nor too crowded yet. September and October is a nice time, as well. Of course, it depends on the type of vacation. Rome, for example, is fabulous at Christmas time, but it is not necessarily the best time for other parts of Italy.
The best places to visit, apart from the one you mentioned: the Amalfi coast (beautiful scenery) and Capri. http://www.yourguidetoitaly.com/top-5-places-in-italy.html
If you like that type of exclusive destinations: Praiano, Portofino and the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia are breathtaking. Praiano and Positano (on the Amalfi Coast) are really beautiful even if a bit spoiled by the tourists.
But Italy is more than just a collection of touristic cities.
Latium, Tuscany and Umbria are all nice regions for history (and cuisine) with remains of pre-Roman cultures such as the Etruscans. There are also lots of colorful festivals almost all year round in all parts of Italy. See: http://www.yourguidetoitaly.com/short-travel-guide.html
Then you have the wonderful, unspoiled nature.
It all depends on the type of vacation you are looking for.
Check the links below (one includes the 10 most famous cities of Italy, not necessarily all worth a visit, but just so you can choose). |

May is perfect to visit Italy.
Have you never been in SORRENTO, AMALFI, CAPRI or NAPLES.?
IN Ercolaneum and Pomepii are many roman ruin to see and all this places are well linke by train. Capri is an Island not too far from Naples).
When you arrive in Italy, pay attention to the pick pockets. |

Hi ! I'm writing from Italy (so I apologize for my English!).The 2end week of may is a perfect time to visit Italy and Greece: it's hot but not too much, so you can visit towns and go to the beach. The trees are green and there are flowers everywhere.
Enjoy your time in Italy and Greece! Bye |

the second week of may is a perfect time to visit, i know from first hand experience. We went to Venice for a week, Rome for a week, and Luca for a week, with side trips to Pomaii, Lake Como, and Pisa along the way. It's not really tourist season yet so you shouldn't have to deal with all the crowds. Have a fantastic time!! Italy is a dream! I can't wait to go back! |

Sicily's sea is great and in the 2nd week of May the weather is becoming more warm and spring is amazing. I suggest you to visit some Island:
- sicily's Island like Lipari
- Capri or Ischia's Island in front of Naples
- Elba's island in front of Tuscany
Wonderful!!! |

I would definitely recommend:
- Sicily (visit the Etna and Taormina and the beaches)
- Almafi coast (amazing scenery)
- Tusacany (great scenery and vineyards)
Greece is beautiful by the way. |

You should go down south: Spend some time in Sicily as it is so beautiful, and the food is divine. One of the more touristy places is Taormina, however it is justified as it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen (I lived there last year so know what I am talking about!)
Since you are going to Greece, then you could spend some time in Puglia. Leece is lovely, and if you spend time in Puglia you can get the ferry from Bari or Brindisi to Greece. |

The 2nd week in May will be a great time to be here. As others have said, the weather can be expected to be good and it won't be so crowded as the peak of the tourist season.
It's a particularly good time to visit Cinque Terre.
There will also be some interesting events going on then. The whole month of May has events around the Palio in Ferrara: http://www.paliodiferrara.it/. You'll miss the races themselves, but there are traditional contests and a huge costumed procession from the castle (on the 17th this year). The Bologna Festival and the Iceburg Festival will both be in Bologna during May. La Corsa all'Anello (Ring Race) in Narni is always worth seeing - another event in medieval costume. http://www.corsallanello.it/home_ing.htm The tournament is on the second Sunday in May, but there are events leading up to it for a couple of weeks. La Festa dei Ceri in Gubbio is another spectacle worth a visit. http://www.ceri.it/ Or , you could go to Mirandola for the city fair which runs for 8 days with events every night. |
