Is the Hilton a nice enough place to stay for 2 days while in Rome? |
Thought we would stay at the Hilton airport as it has shuttles all day long to Rome. Then we need to rent a car for a week as we will be in the town of Cortona. Good car rental company that is more local than international? |

The Hilton is nice enough, but relatively expensive. I've stayed there, but only if I have an early flight from Fiumicino. Why would you want to shuttle back and forth into Rome? It's a lot more convenient to stay near the attractions. There's a train connection (11 euro) from the airport to Roma Termini train station that only takes 31 minutes. That will get you back to the airport for your rental car. |

The Hilton is not conveniently located and overpriced. Stay near the main train station, Termini. I recently stayed at the Radisson SAS Hotel, a block from the station and a quick train ride from the airport. Hotels around the Termini tend to be cheaper--even the 3 and 4-star hotels and in front of the Termini is the bus depot with buses to take you anywhere you want to go. Also, at the Termini is a stop of the subway, or Metro. |

yes, the hilton is quite nice. for your car, you should check out http://www.travelcuse.com to book. the site is an aggregator which means it takes offers from various online sites and shows you the best deals. good luck! |

choose a hotel in rome so you don't need to shuttle.
you will want to reserve your car from the states before you leave so the price is cheaper-- otherwise you will pay much more booking when you arrive. shop around online to compare pricing for your dates & car model.....if you are in italy during summer make sure you get air conditioning!!!!!
the car companies you book online through the sites hook you up w/ locally owned companies. make sure all insurance is included in your rate!!! get all details emailed (not just faxed) to you before you leave. take copies but if you misplace them you can print them out when you arrive. |
