"aver" and "avere" means the same thing, but "aver" it's more.. romantic, poetic.. and the same thing with "mar and mare". In the Italian language we don't use the apocope, we use it just in the poetry or in the song.

They are both correct and it isn't true we use apocope only in poetry, at the opposite we use it always more often in the modern spoken language, coz it helps to cut it short and u know that nowday time is gold.
