Is the fiumicino airport open 24 hours? is there place to just lounge there overnight for a 5am checkin?

i need to be in the fiumicino rome airport by 5.00am ( international checkin) to take the alitalia flight through paris at 7.00am. to avoid the early morning haste, if i reach the airport late night say midnight, is there a safe place just to sit till the time of checkin? is there a possibility of city checkin or early checkin of luggage at the airport?

Somebody asked this just the other day. There's actually a website dedicated to this kind of question. http://www.sleepinginairports.net/ with 514 reviews of sleeping in airports worldwide, tips, and other interesting information. Fiumicino has a 24 hour cafe and it's quiet enough to get a few hours sleep, but they do sometimes make you leave. I would expect that's less likely if you have a ticket for an early flight the next morning. It's not like Ciampino that closes overnight though.

It should be open; as to the 2-hour prior-to-flight check-in, don't freak out if the check-in desk isn't open when it ought to be. I don't think the employees start coming in until around 5/5:30, and it will take a while for them to get set up. Just plan on sitting around near the check-in desk beginning at the check-in time.
(Sorry, speaking from personal experience here. I had a 7 am flight on Alitalia from Fiumicino, and I couldn't check in for my international flight until about an hour before the flight left due to the situation described above. Nerve-wracking, yes, but you'll still make your flight. It just isn't as hurried as in the U.S.)

i'm italian, maybe it's open 24hours, when i was in fiumicino at 6 or 7 o'clock it was full of people, many sleeping there, and i think it's a quite safe place, don't worry.
