Theres mafia everywhere nowadays but i dont think they will target you in tuscany....
for the other answers: dont give the WRONG picture that all the south is runned by the mafia...idiots...!

Sorry but answers like "mafia is everywhere" are very skindeep and show insufficient cognition of Italy.
Mafia is a phenomenon of the South of Italy, especially Naples, Calabria and Sicily. Tuscany (and Northern and Central Italy) is not concerned at all. In Tuscany there are criminal like in every other place in the world, but mafia doesn't exist.

I don't think so. Lets face it though, there is crime even in the smallest towns. Don't let it stop you from visiting anywhere in Italy. All of Italy is beautiful.

The main banks where mafia deposites the majority of its money are in London, coz english legislation is very "permissive" and it closes more than one eye to permit at the english banks to draw dirty money from all over the world, so to rule in the financial area. So if u scared of Mafia escape from ur country. A big part of ur economy is supported by mafia's money, for not talking of Organizatciya, the russian mafia (ever heard about Roman Abramovic?).

Let's face it - there are gangs everywhere. No matter where, it might be Mafia, more likely the Triad, or just thugs - but realistically; they are all around us.

However, that would not stop me moving.

They probably targeted the mega-rich ones, whom was very ostentatious and loud and proud with their money.

mafia was born in Italy and it's still dominant in the south of Italy expecially Sicily, Calabria and Campania, but now is everywhere.
Mafia boss invest their dirty money in many countries: they buy hotels, restaurants and companies in many different countries (Germany, USA, UK, spain and many others).

no, in tuscany mafia is so diffused, it's typical of the south of our country, but i went to tuscany and there isn't any.

There isn't mafia in Tuscany, and in the north of Italy
The "Big" mafia is only in the south of Italy, in Sicily, Puglia, Campania...

Very possibly but the main location for the Mafia in Italy is in and around Naples.
