I like the Ristorante Da Raffaelle on fondamenta de le Ostreghe. Get an outside table on the little canal and watch the gondolas go by. Bistrot du Venise near Piazza San Marco is also interesting. They have a menu based on old recipes from the 1500s and 1600s. La Zucca in Santa Croce is really good. Another good spot is Al Graspo de Ua near the Rialto Bridge.

You should be aware that if the menu has prices per etto that's per 100 g. You can end up paying $100 for a branzino in the tourist restaurants near Piazza San Marco if you're not careful.

You can find lots of listings with maps at: http://restaurants.venicexplorer.net/index.php?hlangs=en

Try the Campo Santa Margherita area for nightlife, or there may be something out on the Lido.

Night life - try Campo Santa Margherita or the Rialto area (the side of the fruit & veggie market). There is a disco next to the Accademia that is kind of cheesy and an other one - big and loud not too far from the station.
Food -
Try the Taverna San Trovaso - good food & great pizza and the prices a good.
Try "Ae Oche" pizza and food in several parts (3 different loocations) of the city. Priced right.
