Sai perche lo so? perche ci vivo

in italy the police is not just polizia,
they have polizia, carabinieri, guardie...
in uk it;s just police....

to be a public servnt there 's a minimum years of residency change in domicile etc required...
i'm not sure whether citizenship would be an issue, could be.

in italy you get what they call conorsi, so you'd have wait for that and sit for a public exam with like 5000 other italians minimum...

in italy things are not soplain and straight forward especially where public employment is concerned if you know what i mean

You can't become a Police Officer in Italy if you don't have Italian Citizenship.

Isn't his English really too bad for a person that says he lived most of his life in the UK?

when you say, "you'd like to do police." What exactly do you mean?

If you can speak italian why dont you ask in italian so you could receive faster answers and more detailed? Anyway to become a police officer in Italy you have to do a "concorso pubblico" which means for police do a course for at least 6 months where they check you and you have to study as well and do exams at the end of the course...to know if they are recruiting now i advise you to watch in the Ministero degli Interni site where they talk about Concorso in Polizia...technically you are british so is a part of the European Union you should be able to apply but is better you contact them and ask...if you speak properly italian you can use that language with them...make sure they understand you...and to pass the exams you have to understand and speak the language in all cases...is a mistery why you want apply in Italy anyway...
