Tuscany is the region the most beautiful and rich of sights. Go in Versilia, but not to Forte dei Marmi because it's very expensive. Try Marina di Massa, hotel caprice (the website is hotelcaprice.net) I't's owned by an english speaking couple and they specialize in organizing trips to places, and sometimes they take you there for free! It's also dead cheap. and it's on the sea.
Other choices are:
Taormina in Sicily
Sorrento, or Amalfi in Campania
Lido di Jesolo in Veneto
avoid Rimini it's a dump.
avoid Sardinia unless you have or want to rent a boat (in that case probably the best place in Italy, cristal clear sea)
avoid Puglia and Calabria and lower Adriatic, unless you like barren seasides and adventurous living, they are not good with services (if you are ok with this, then you can find beautiful beaches in Salento and Conero).
Lazio and lower Tuscany are quite wild but nothing new.
Liguria is difficult, maybe Cinque terre, and Alassio or Bordighera.

Livorno / Pisa is nice, Ancona and Bari are also very nice and there are Camping places near the beach as well as inexpensive hotels close to the beach. |

If you're looking for inexpensive, Lido de Jesolo is a good choice. The beach goes for miles and miles and there are hotels for all budgets. It's a stone's throw from Venice and trips there are easily arranged. For a more expensive but rather exclusive option, try Viareggio on the Tuscan coast. The beaches are well maintained but you have to pay a nominal charge for ones with facilities. From here you can visit Pisa and Lucca. I love Italy - my fave European country! |

Riviera del Conero in Le Marche region - Italy seems like what you are looking for. The beaches are lovely and not too crowded, if you avoid the August beach madness. There are beautiful (and still undiscovered by mass tourism) historical towns and also great shopping. Have a good vacation! |

I would recommend two places, Conero in le Marche or the East coast of Sardinia. I love both places. I have lived in Italy for ten years and after all this time these are my two favourite coastal spots. They are also not that touristy and fairly reasonable by Italian standards.
With regards to places to stay there are plenty - you can check out my site for some ideas and for more on both places.

Hi I'm Italian so please listen to me... Don't go to Rimini because is surely a good place for pubs and discos but the sea is bad!!! Then don't go near big cities like Genova Roma Napoli etc. The sea near big cities is dirty... Go to Sicily that is beautiful and cheap or in Puglia especially in "Salento" (The most important city of salento is Gallipoli) We have also Sardegna and Costiera Amalfitana... So if you want an holiday with sun and sea go everywhere you want but absolutely in the south part of Italy!!! Bye bye |

If you want to go to the Southern Part well you got to go to Taromina which is on the Island of Sicily it's very beautiful it in between Messina and Catania a stone throws from any Hotel or motel.
The beaches are well know as all sand and also nude if you want but it's optional they get women and people from all over the world their and the food is fantastic , the water is to die for it's crystal clear and see as far as you want to the bottom and also for the first 3to 5 Ft it's warm then after that it's so cold but very nice.
How I know this I lived in Sicily for over 13 years and worked on the miltary base their at Sigonella (Catania Italy) so belive me I do know what I am talking about.
I hope you have Italy is nice and Beautiful. |

Definately Rimini. I have been for the past two years and love it. We stayed in the Biancomano (booked through octopustravel.com) and last year as a special deal we got 3 nights B&B for 2 adults and 2 kids for £99. All hotels have their own private part of the beautiful clean beach (although Biancomano is up near the marina and is 5 or 6 mins walk from the private beach, but is really nice and quiet and plenty of eating places nearby).
I absolutely love Italy, it is one of the nicest places in the world with the friendliest people. |
