no , they are very polite, but they at least give it a try..they are male , you are female, but they are very gentl and polite when you go out with them ,they offer everything, because it's normal for an italian man to pay, and they really try to give you nice evening, and like with all boys you don't know too well, you shouldn't go into too dark corners....

It depends on what setting you're in. If you're in a club, then, YES, they will be touching, grabbing and telling you how beautiful you are, etc.

In general, girls make little eye contact with guys in Italy, when they are strangers. Girls try to give them no reason to think they're interested, because they will get hounded regardless. SO, many girls, even though they like a guy, will purposely reject him a few times before giving out their number, etc.

Outside of the clubs, you may get practically every male being friendly and offering to HELP you with whatever you might need.

It probably won't be your blonde hair and green eyes that will make you stand out (Italy has its share of light-skinned blondes). There are other subtle ways Americans tend to stand out in Italy among the rest.

Also, knowing you're an American, and a tourist, they will assume you're an easy catch (that is the stereotype). This will keep their hopes up in their pursuit.

hi...i'm italian...first of all sorry for my english =)...
the italian guys are like guys of the world...some are stupid...and some are intelligent....italy isn't different...
then if you come to italy (?) enjoy yourself (?)

ps...sorry for the mistakes

claudia
hei hei!!!They are not monsters!
I am italian and I can just tell you we are really friendly people.
The guys are gonna look at you if you are nice and they will try to talk to you...even if they do not speak english!!!!
And probably you will find them so silly and idiots for the accent.... and probably they will be.....but italian guys love women ....so there is nothing to do....
At least they are funny!!!

Alfredo is right.
I live in Rome, I know it.

You are an american tourist, blond and beautiful, and probably you will be considered a sort of aim.

If you are in disco, consider that there is a GREAT probability you will be touched while dancing in the crowd.

Be polite, and don't make you seem intended to shock.

Okay, first don't believe all the b.s. you hear from others. Some Italian guys are "aggressive" and some are very sweet. Also, you have to remember guys are guys, no matter where they come. Some guys will act like crazed sex monsters when they are with their friends (I don't know, I think it's a guy thing) and then be so kind and gentle with you when they are alone with you. Italian guys and girls will know you are a foreigner by the way you dress, talk, walk, etc. Italian guys in general think foreign girls are easy to take to bed, so they'll be extra nice to you. I'm not saying all foreign girls are easy, but a lot of them are willing to have a sexual adventure when they are thousands of miles away from home. Italian guys know this. About you being blonde with green eyes has nothing to do with it. If you are blonde but ugly and have a lousy attitude, Italians won't give you the time of day. Not all Italians are like the stereotypes you seen in Hollywood movies. A lot of Italians in the north are natural blondes with light colored eyes, so you won't be anything new to them. My boyfriend is from the Lombard region and has natural blond hair and blue eyes...a lot of his relatives and friends are the same. Heck, there are even southern Italians with light features. If Italian guys "hassle" you it will because you are pretty and/or they think you are an easy lay...it has nothing to do with you being blonde. Like I said before, not all Italian guys are creeps...the majority are actually very sweet. Oh, and there are a lot of foreigners here, so a lot of times it will be the foreign guys making cat calls at you, but if you don't speak Italian it might be difficult for you to understand who the real Italians are.

Okay, sorry this was so long...enjoy your trip.

I live in Italy...I've been here 9+ years.

It is a stereotype. Some are rude, just like some are in the states. Your blond hair will make you stand out (though not as much in Rome, there are tourists everywhere) but being pretty won't. I am sure you are a beautiful girl, not doubting that, but there are beautiful women everywhere in Italy.

I live in a smaller town in Tuscany (the Northern part) and have never had one single problem. I am with my fiance most of the time though, so that may have something to do with it. But I have found most men to be polite and considerate. However, I am almost 30, dress tastefully and do not act as though I am single and seeking attention.

I don't think you will have a problem. I think it is an old stereotype. Have fun on your trip!

Hi there.. I'm italian too, let me tell that i'm full of hearing people considering us just as rudish, annoying and so on, just because maybe they've meet 3 or 4 of us...It's as the same of saying that all english are always drunk
We are as all the guys of the world, some of us are really stupid, and other are really sweet and friendly...I hope you'll meet the second group of guys..
Sorry if i seemed angry.... Anyayw, i wish you to have fun and meet nice people!! =)
ciao

CRISCIAMPI, SEI UN GENIO!!!!!
HAI TROPPO RAGIONE!!!

it depends on where you go... there's a big difference between north and south of Italy and I can say they are more aggressive in the south... however remember .. most aggressions in Italy are not made by italians but by people from Albania or Rumania.. so careful to avoid them... also don't get too much boozed aggressions are often the results of a s s h o l e s taking advantaged of drunk girls.. I am italian and I live in Florence... Florence is a pretty safe city but don't go out alone at nite

Italian guys are just...guys, like in every part of the world!!! Everything depends on your behavior: if you give the impression that you'd love to be approached they probably will; in other cases nobody will disturb you.

Stan
Yes, they are - it is quite a different culture. I was watching a large group of Italian High School students and the guys were smothering the girls. One guy - and this really stands out - grabbed a girl and kissed her so hard it made her cry. I'm guessing what would be considered assault here probably isn't regularly punished there. If you're under 50 you are probably going to get your butt pinched a couple times.
