It's not true! I'm Italian ( Bonfiglio ) means " The Good Son " and please let me tell you, I treat my girlfriend with 100% respect, and never have or ever will cheat on her!! It's only 1 answer, but I hope it makes you feel a little more comfortable. Good Luck on your trip.

I went to Italy when I was 15 and its true to some degree. They don't act like dogs in heat or anything but are respectful and will probably say "ciao bella" when you pass which is "hello beautiful"....."hit on" really aren't the words to use, I mean some are just trying to get laid just like some men in America are....I don't know, I can't really explain it. You'll have to go and see for your self :)

It really is beautiful over there and men and women Italians alike are some of the friendliest people you will meet.

Edit: nope, thats not true...another stereotype that everyone hates Americans. As long as you act like you should when you are a guest in someone elses country and are respectful you'll get along fine. I'm American and had a great time in Italy and felt no hostility simply because of my nationality....in fact some seem more curious to talk to me, but in a good way. Congratulations on spending the year in Italy, I am also this coming summer. I'm very excited about it....its wonderful there.

It's true to some degree. I barely got out of the airport before someone came up to me. Most people say "ciao bella" or "bella americano." And just leave it there. It's kinda sweet, most just quietly check out girls from afar like any guy in America. Some places are worse than others, the guys in Florence were clapping and cheering that fact that I was Asian. haha. It was an interesting experience to say the least. It's nice to get that kinda attention. However, some might construed being "hit on" because some Italian men in general are very affectionate and friendly. I'm not sure if they are any more adulterous but I doubt it's not statistically anymore than any other male in the world. I saw some married couples that looked very much in love to me.

NOT TRUE! I have visited Italy a lot when I was in The Navy, and NEVER saw a man treat a woman bad, in fact, they are better in my opinion than most American men!

The Italians are EXTREMELY nice, once you get to know them , and show yourself as an Ambassador of America, or which ever country you are from, NOT the ugly American or other! They will love you if you just CARE! :)

First of all, I'm Italian, and yes, we love women. What's wrong with that? Do you want to go to a country where everyone walks around like a robot or a homo?

We are men, and we do what men are supposed to do.

Furthermore, not all Italian men are like that, but many are.

If you are cute, they will talk to you.

But if you want them to leave you alone, just act like a cold German, and they'll leave you alone.

They are Pro-players in the flirting game. And loyal to their real friends and some confident woman friend.

The truth is : years ago was true that all man hit all women ( especially in some regions like Sicily , Romagna etc ) ... Now is not true : people are like the ones of other countries ( + or - ) . It's no true that we hate USA .... but someone ( communists ) hate USA as they love communism and not liberty ... I love America and all anglosaxon countries ( GB , Australia , Canada and NZ ) ... I 'd like to live some year there . I had a girlfriend from NY . Kisses from Sicily - Taormina

is not true...
they just wants to show how are beautiful (or in Italian fighi) but aren't dangerous if is this your problem.

about Misterno and Communist ideas, Communist doesn't exist here now,it is a really stupid thing you wrote, but he is Sicilian, a land of fascists...
