The weather in July in Tuscany is very hot during the day, but it can be relatively cold at night, so bring a couple of jumpers to wear when it is cooler.
All central Italy is very beautiful, I lived for a few years in Viterbo, between Rome and Florence, as I went to university there. Viterbo is a quaint medieval town, then there is Civita di Bagnoregio, Castiglione in Teverina (where in summertime they have a popular wine festival), Perugia is also worth a visit. Basically, every small town in central Italy is very quaint with medieval architecture and in summer there are a lot of festivals. The best thing to do to go around those areas is renting a car, because the public transportation system between the different towns and villages is not very good. |

I would recommend Lucca, a small fortified city- very beautiful too! Best food outside of Sicily, nice people, clear Italian spoken and beautiful area, it is not as crowded, touristy or expensive as Florence, Pisa and Siena. worth visiting but not great to stay in.
