in southern italy at this time of year there are loads of feste, feast days for the villages saints.. there are illuminations in the streets a procession behind the saints statue and lots of drinking and eating and at the end of the festa a firework display.
also there are what is known as 'sagra'. these are festa in the town or village street for local food. so there may be sagra della cipolla, onion, trota, trout, it depends on what is a speciality of the area.
there is a really big sagra in a village in basilicata called spinosso, there are tweleve stalls all thro' the village selling all the local dishes, and wines..
these are great nights out as there is also music and dancing and much merryment.
in the village i live in we have the sagra of the poor plate, with local meat and cheeses for antipasto, fussili, local pasta dish, for first course, local meats for second course and local fruits for dessert, all washed down with the local wine....

we just live our daily lives: we get an espresso in the morning, walk around, go shopping, go clubbing, eat out, and have fun!

Back roads in Tuscany with little towns built on hilltops are fun. Nude beaches are interesting, but hard to find.
