My husband and I spent 43 days in Europe (7 days in Paris and 36 days all over Italy. We spent $8700. This included our food, entertainment, hotel, rental car, gas and other miscellaneous things. That comes out to be $202 a day. One of the best recommendations I can give you is to pick a base city in the middle of every city you want to see and get an apartment there. This cuts the cost of lodging dramatically. Also, eating breakfast in your apartment cuts down on at least one meal a day, even though breakfast is not too expensive. If you want to see all those cities you mentioned, I would maybe split it up in two or three apartment, like a week in each one. A great base camp to see Florence and Milan is Bologna, a fantastic city. For Venice I would stay in Verona, it's cheaper than Venice, it's only 40 mintues away by train, and it's a great city with lots to do. For Rome and Pompeii, you can stay in Rome or in Naples. Since the dollar has fallen and it's now about $1.51 to buy 1 euro, we try to cut costs every where we can (we go once or twice a year). |
