Italy - where have YOU stayed? |
Im going to Italy in November. Would love to hear from people about where they stayed in Rome, Florence and/or Venice. Nothing like hearing first hand how your stay was. Additional Details I appologize for my question not being as clear as I had hoped. Im really interested in finding out what type of places you stayed at - for instance - a bed & breakfast or hotel. Also would you recommend the place you did stay at, or make a suggestion as to where to stay. But I will say, that from the response so far - Im more looking forward to going. |

In Rome, I stayed at the Colonna Palace Hotel. It's very centrally located and you can walk to any major attraction in Rome. The Pantheon is literally a few blocks away. The hotel itself was nice. The bartender is cool as heck and will tell you where anything is or give you advice about practically everything. The other staff are very friendly and helpful as well. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and pretty spacious. There is also a nice rooftop area with a small pool (only like 3-4 feet deep) and lounge chairs. And to top everything off, there is an amazing gelatto place about 5 mins away called Giolitti's, it's a must. Hope this helps! |

I was in Rome 2 summers ago, and i gotta say, there is nothing like it. I went to the trevi fountain, the coloseum, and many mueseums. Everyone there is extremely nice and hospitable. You will have a great time! |

We were in Italy April 2009
Rome; Hotel Fiune Via Brescia, Rated 3 stars
This is north of the main train station east of the Villa Borgheses area.
It's a bit off the beaten path, but within walking distance to the train and bus station. There are a lot of small Bistors and Tratoria's around. Our favorite was the New Age Cafe. good food, great prices, and nice freindly people that work there..
The Hotel Fiume had recently been updated and was very modern inside. It was a good size room for a big city like Rome. The staff was good and helpfull in offering advice. The breakfast every morning was a nice extra, not extravagant, but plenty of food and a good enough selection.
In Florence we stayed at Hotel Delle Nazione, right by the train station and a short walk to the Arno and major sites. Again rated 3 stars. Like the first, the staff and common areas were very nice, the room was big enough, but the shower was the smallest I ever saw in my life. The beds were like sleeping on rocks. So forget how nice the staff was or how convinient the location was, find another selection.
In Venice we stayed at Hotel Abbazia again rated 3 stars.
The building and the grounds were exceptional, the room was exspansive and the ceiling soared to over 20' high in our room. There was a large soaking tub with jets in the bath. We were a minute walk to the train station and 30 seconds to the Grand Canal. Yes 30 seconds walk. There is a courtyard to have your breakfast in, as well as the main breakfast room. There is also a large lounge which was a former chapel. If not for the fact that they have no elevator, this should be rated a 4 star hotel. The staff were helpful and every one spoke English. I would reccomend this hotel highly. |
