Kid friends hotels/resorts in Italy?

I have traveled through Italy with my children more than once and stayed at numerous different places. Generally the attitude towards children is very friendly. Italians are very family oriented, children are a normal part of life, adored and appreciated.

My youngest celebrated his fifth birthday during his first vacation there, so I have not experienced a two year old in Italy, but he was still young enough that we needed a stroller for our late evenings and when he was too exhausted to walk (he has always been very small for his age and falls asleep early). We purchased a low priced one there that we just left at the airport before our departure. The larger wheeled ones work better on the cobblestone streets.

When I planned my trips I always booked places that had swimming pools or a beach nearby. Most of the places that we stayed in had elevators, but you should be prepared for places that do not have them or they could be out of service. Some places will also add a cot to the room so your child can have a place to sleep.

You can also look into self-catering apartments. One benefit of those is that you will be able to do your own laundry, which with children is a necessity.

The only place that I stayed where children were a bit of an issue was a country residence in Umbria that catered to British couples without children who wanted to lay by the pool and read books. The family who owned and ran the place requested that our children not make excessive noise while in the pool. It was a little uptight, but the family was very warm and welcoming and we were able to adjust to a different type of poolside etiquette. Swimming pools in Italy are generally more relaxed than that, though.

I would suggest remaining flexible and phoning ahead and speaking directly with the hotel booking person to develop a sense of the attitude towards children. Plan your activities with a two year old in mind. Lengthy visits to museums is typically not an activity that they will enjoy, but there are so many other things that you can do together.

This hotel is in the center of Rome if you are staying there. The convenience and reasonable rates for that zone and wonderful service that I have experienced make this an exceptional find. It is right by the Spanish Steps and a Metro stop.

Hotel Farini is a superior 2 Star Hotel situated in the old town centre, next to Termini, main railway station that is well connected to the airport, subway, buses and taxis. You can easily get to all ancient historic points of the city, most of them reachable on foot or by any other means of transportation. We can organise guided tours of the city and of its surrounding.

Generally children are welcome everywhere and allowed to be childish.

I think your best bet is holiday apartment rental as then it can work out cheaper and you'll have more space and kitchen where the kids can eat what they want etc. I often use http://ww.holiday-velvet.com

It depends very much whether you like beaches or cities. With children of this age it is always very nice to stay in an apartment. Genoa offers a lot for children as well, like the largest Aquarium, the cittÃ dei bambini and much more.
