Lake Como in Italy.?

I want to go to Lake Como in Italy. Which town is best to stay in? How long would you recommend going for?

The city of Como is nice and fairly well-connected by train/bus to visit other places too. However, I personally prefer Bellagio as a place to stay. I wouldn't stay more than a week and while I was there, I would definitely go to Bergamo for a day.

You might consider Lago Orta rather than Lago Como it's very scenic and somewhat cheaper.

Another option is Lago Garda, because it's much easier to take day trips to places like Venice, Verona, or Mantova that are all worth seeing.

Lake Como is to overrun now - try one of the neighboring lakes to get away from tourists

Bellagio is the best to stay in. Very beautiful. I stayed in the hotel metropole there and the owners were lovely and welcomed you with a welcome drink with cookies. I went here for xmas 2 years ago,

Are you there for work? Silk? Como is not a bad place - nice town and you are well connected to Milan. Take the trip to Monza should you have the chance and visit its Duomo and wonderful park with the "Villa Reale" (Royal Villa).
Como - there is a lot of territory to explore but several days should probably suffice.

It depends...the lake is shared by two provinces Lecco and Como.

I went three weeks ago to Varenna on the Lecco side of the lake and it was marvelous. There were many americans there too.

Visit www.lagodicomo.com. While you are in Como..take the opportunity to visit the other lakes too. Lago di Lugano is about thirty minutes from Lake Como. In Varese, about 40 minutes from lake Como...there's Lake Varese. On the other side, of it Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore...

The whole Lake district is beautiful... I live here!!!!

Cheers
