Leaning tower of Piza? Is it worth visiting?

We will be going to northern Italy for next 2 weeks. We will be flying into Venice and will be based in Vincensa. Is it worthwhile to go see the leaning tower. Is there anything else to do in that area?

Will you be based in Vicenza for the entirety of your trip? Well it is not the most convenient location to be a base (Verona or Padova would have been more convenient for rail transport), but if you will be having a car and driving during the trip the it'll be fine.

Pisa is a lovely small town which can be easily explored in a couple of hours. If you're travelling from Vicenza to Pisa by car, you'll be looking at a journey of close to 4 hours. If you're travelling by train, you'll be required to change the trains twice (ie usually in Padova then Florence, or occassionaly in Verona then Florence) and the journey will take between 4 1/2 to 5 hours, depending on which connection you're taking.

Lucca, that's recommended by Stan, is indeed another good place to visit. But bear in mind, your travelling time to/fro would take anything between 8-10 hours already, which is very long before even considering the time for sightseeing.

I would recommend if you want to visit Pisa and Lucca, then you should perhaps leave early to Pisa, go to Lucca and stay overnight there. Then the next day go to Florence. Florence is beautiful and there are plenty to do there. It wouldn't even hurt to stay in Florence for a couple of days. (Have a look at this wikitravel for Florence - http://wikitravel.org/en/Florence )

And while in Vicenza, some places around there to visit (apart from Venice) would be Padova, Verona and the lakes, Bassano del Grappa and Ravenna.

Have a wonderful holiday in Italy!

I went to italy for 2 weeks also. I would say go for it! I'm not sure about you, but I don't go to Italy very much (only once). There is really nothing else to do. You could spend about 4 hours there tho. There is a little cathedral right next to it and another building. And if your in to knock off purses there are a lot of those around! haha Have fun!

the leaning tower is a typical touristic attraction, but it's not the most beautiful thing that you can see in that area.
If you are in tuscany, go to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra that are much more beutiful.
In the north of Italy is worth visiting the lakes: lago maggiore o lago di como, where you'll find a wonderful and romantic landscape.
I suggest visiting Bellagio or Varenna on lago di como, Stresa or laveno for lago maggiore.

I think it's worthwhile. Although it's virtually the only attraction in Pisa it's a very nice attraction. You can probably spend about 4 hours there total and get there early so you can reserve the time you want to go up the tower.

Since you only need a couple hours there I recommend hitting the city of Lucca on your way back. It'll make for a nice full day of sight seeing.

By the way, nobody pointed this out but it is Pisa and not Piza. Italy is a gorgeous country and so much to see! Sure go see it! Its a world marvel! Italy is not big, a little bigger than the state of Arizona but boy is it packed in with so many world know sites and "The Leaning Tower of Pisa" is definitely one to look at on your way to many beautiful others!
Enjoy your trip!

I went about a month ago. If you are going to be in Italy for two weeks, yeah why not. It is a very short and cheap side trip from florence. But yeah the leaning tower is all there is to see. It's like "yep there it is" and then you leave. We spent maybe 4 hours to get there look around and come home...but hey at least I can say I saw it!

visit the country

>.<
um, not really. when i went you had to pay like 15 euro per person to go in and climb up. kind of a ripoff. i mean it was pretty, but not really that worth paying that kind of money for it.

venice is beautiful. make sure you go to the island of Burano in venice. handblown glass. amazing.
