I live about an hour south of Garda. While it's often nice being on or around the lake in mid April, it's really too cold to go swimming in the lake.

April in Italy can be lovely since Spring is definitely underway and the countryside looks lovely and green with loads of blossom and flowers, but it can be a bit chilly and wet at times.

Given that Lake Garda is fed by mountain streams and the weather will still not have warmed up much in April, I think you'd have to be pretty brave to go swimming in the lake then. As for swimming in a pool, I think that all depends on where you'll be staying and if there's any sort of heating.

According to the BBC weather website, in April the weather in Venice (of the cities listed, the one closest to Lago di Garda)has, on average, highs of 17°C, lows of 10°C, an average of 6 hours of sun every day and 9 days of rain each month.

Contrary to what many people believe, the weather in Italy outside the summer months can be cold, wet and generally not all that nice.

I'm italian and in mid-April there are about 62°F - 73°F....
But don't worry near the lake garda there's the biggest italian amusement park: Gardaland.

Yes, it is opkay, maybe a bit chilly, but there is another park called mirabilandia close to rimini and it`s more south, maybe warmer.
