Milan or Turin... Which is better?

I'm going to spend a long weekend in either Turin or Milan. Which would you recommend? I'm considering price, food, scenery, entertainment... any advice is great!

Thanks!

Yesssssssssssssss....Milan's better...

I'm completely agree with Ian...Milan is a very beautiful city (if you are very fond of shopping like me, I suggest you via Montenapoleone -very close to the city centre-, there are very very very expensive clothes but it's a must doing window shopping there!).

Also very interesting the towns of the hinterland of Milan: I suggest you Monza (there is a beautiful villa with an huge park, the city centre of Monza with its Arengario)

and Lainate with the Villa Litta (wonderful!!!)

I send you a link to a web page where you can find information about castles and villas in Lombardia (the region of Milan)
http://www.castellieville.it/index.php?lang=E

If you tell me your per day buget for hotel I'll send you information, but I think Ian gave you a good suggestion (even if I think there are some mistakes: the hotel I know is St. Eustorgio and it s in Arcore not Vimercate - the two city are very close...)

Sorry for my english!!!!

Ciao

Milan is just a horrible, money focused place whereas Turin is a beautiful city with a very unique character.

The city's setting alone is breathtaking. numerous rivers flow through the city including the mighty Po river, it is surrounded by an alpine backdrop with world famous ski resorts and overlooked by a hill that is as beautiful as anything in Tuscany.

Torino was the first capital of the new united Italy and was the home of the House of Savoy and the Savoy kings. The city is still regal in appearance with wide squares, arcaded avenues (so royalty could walk without getting wet!) and of course the palaces, Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama, Reggia di Venaria ( the best of them all ) and Stupinigi.

These palaces are an equal to anything that Versailles and Paris can offer and are now UNESCO World Heritage sites. Visit all of them, after eight years I still visit regularly and I am still making new discoveries.

Milan lovely city and lots to do and see you will love it and the shops are to die for?

Except from the Duomo, Milano has few to see, and it's way more expensive than Torino. But if you like expensive posh clothes and discos you will like it.
And is not true that Torino is only an industrial and polluted city...definitely Milano is more.

If you like chocolate, in Torino you have to taste "gianduiotti"

and the liquor called "bicerin"

You can find really good red wine and the tipical dish "bagna caoda" is amazing!

Both tick your boxes. Personally I would avoid Turin, It's essentially industrial and somewhat polluted. Milan is clean, Even better is to stay a little way out of town. I usually stay at the Hotel St. Estorgio in Vimacate. Close to the F1 race track at Monza.

Delightful.

EDIT

Apologies for the hotel details. Let's just say the Tadaima's English is better than my Italian.
