Monolocale in Naples......... Rispondete se sapete parlare l'italiano?
In an email from the landlord it said "mi deve mandare un acconto con bonifico bancario". I speak Italian so I know what this means, I was just curious if the this was the way it is done in Italy. I will be staying in Italy for 3 months and found this place for 450 EURO a month. Does this seem like a scam? I hope this question is clear.
This is pretty normal. Checks are not exchanged between private parties, in Italy. The common way to exchange funds (often between commercial parties as well) is through the "wire transfer" (bonifico bancario).
You should have a contract with this person, that outlines what you agree to, including the down payment.
The risk you're taking by sending the wire transfer is not any more or any less than if you paid by check: if you have the contractual back up, you're ok. If not, you're taking a risk no matter how you're paying.
But it is, indeed, a common practice.

Tranquillo, in Italia si lasciano caparre attraverso bonifici bancari. Se vuoi essere piu' sicuro chiama la banca e accertati dell'intestatario del conto!
Buona fortuna
