If you are only here for 4 days, then I would recommend that you do not try to see all these on the same trip. You will end up spending a lot of time in transit rather than sightseeing especially if you need to get back to Rome for a return flight. There's enough to see in Rome that you could spend the whole time there. However, I do understand wanting to see the other cities.

Rome to Florence is only 90 to 100 minutes on the faster trains. You can easily do this part of the trip. The train arrives within a short walk of the historic area of Florence. Florence to Venice is another 2 and a half hours on the high speed trains. Pisa is one hour to 2 hr 15 minutes each way from Florence.

You can use this site for planning train travel here in Italy:http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=3fdbe14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD. The trains are relatively cheap and fast over the distances between Rome and Venice here. While flying time would be faster, the overall trip isn't because you have time to get to/from airports, check-in, security, baggage pickup, and you have to be there well before the flight time.

If I had 4 days to see all of Italy, I wouldn't bother going! What you want to do (Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice) could easily occupy you for 12 months worth of travel. I have spent 26 days in Rome this year, and only saw about half of it properly.

There is so much packed into Italy that it would be impossible to see all that in only 4 days. Just go to Rome for those 4 days and leave the other cities for another trip. I agree with other answerers, you will spend most of your time traveling on trains and not actually seeing anything.

Hi Tony!I'm Italian. 4 days are few to see 4 cities.Rome is very very big and there are too many monuments to see...in 4 days you can visit Rome and 1 day Naples if you like...contact me if you want! Bye :)

Hi Tony,
Wow this is very ambitious. Why don't you tell a bit about what you already know, ie where are you arriving, do you have accommodation booked, and how will you get from city to city (naturally, only if you know this stuff already). This will help to provide a sensible plan for you.

I'm afraid you think Italy is a very small country. In 4 days you can hardly visit Rome, forget you can turn all the country. You won't see really anything, and you will spend all your time and plenty of money on travelling. Choose a town and visit well and without hurry that town.
Don't think about the best places to go, think the best way to go to places. As a rule, the fastest the worst.
