Romans are so named because they come from the City of Rome. Italy was made up of many cities and areas, not united but in competition with each other. Rome, ie the Romans felt superior to all others. If fact, they may have been more advanced. |

Must the people thinks that "Roma" takes his name from one of the twins Romolo, but probably it come from the Etruscan word that means "ford".

the story tells that two twins fought to "edificate" Rome and their names were "romolo" and "remo". romolo (in 753 a.d.) won over his bro who died....and it's after remo that he named the city Roma....so it's the romans that have been named after the city :)
the name,tho' come probably from the greek word RòME (with stressed o) that means strength.
There are other 1997479348702343545577 possible reasons for the name...these two r the most famous ones.

Myth says that the word "Roma" comes from a couple of twins named Romolo and Remo; who were abandoned by their mother(a goddes) and breast-feeded by a female wolf; when they grew up they founded the city of Rome, which is a mix of their names, and the wolf has remained the symbol of the city.
