I visited Rome and Venice last year and loved learning more about my Italian heritage; however there were both good and bad aspects of Italy...

The good:
1. The food - loved the thin, crisp pizza, the gelato, and the available wine selections
2. Vatican City – wonderful display of artifacts
3. The Coliseum and Ancient Rome – amazing history and architecture – I suggest taking a detailed tour
4. Gondola rides - The beauty of the Venetian waterways
5. Trevi Fountain – drinking water in the beautiful fountains throughout the city

The bad:
1. The Italian trains – we had a rude an unprofessional conductor, plus our train broke down, costing us half a day of travel
2. The heat – it is hot and humid during the summer, and no one seems to have air conditioning
3. The cost of food – restaurants serve the meals in courses – I paid $13 euros just for a piece of turkey without any sides.
4. Water – restaurants do not serve tap water – it’s cheaper to buy wine than water
5. The crowds – people want to see the popular sights, so you have to deal with a lot of people

Like
1. The Italians - they are basically good people.
2. The main land & the islands - you have everything from sea to (ski) mountains.
3. The food (and wine) culture - each region and even within each region food stuffs are used in magical ways.
4. The art & design.... Classic to contemporary.
5. The language

Dislike:
1. The constant instability in government (in general)
2. The mafia & the mafia mentality from NORTH to South
3. Too many Italians keep their cities dirty... and then complain about it.
4. The one Euro espresso - it's over priced.
5. the modern day Fascists

Hello,

Things I like: The ancient sites.
The gelato
The transportation system
The food
The churches

Things I dislike: The crowds
The heat
The graffiti
The pickpockets
The street vendors

I love Italy. The dislikes are only minor dislikes and would not discourage me from the many trips I take there.

I dislike nothing about Italy.
I think with passion comes positive and negative things.
The dirty subways, the street vendors, the heat, thats all PART of Italian culture.
Its like saying Canada is too cold. Yeah its freakin' cold, BUT, it wouldn't be the same if it was warm all year round.

sorry if thats not the answer you were looking for, but its the god honest truth.
