Naples, Italy - is it true that their internet technologically is behind the rest of the world?

A relaitve is stationed at a Navy Base in Naples, Italy. Supposedly, the reason it takes so long to reply to emails in Naples is that the internet is very old fashioned and slow moving. Have other people who have been to Naples feel that this is true?

Hi!I'm italian from Bologna! Were Naples have the same internet technologically as the rest of the world!

I'm Italian (Milan) and never heard about such a huge problem with the Internet. I've sent a lot of emails to the US and always got response.

On base, the network is a very modern, efficient one. It has the same problems that any network has occasionally with outages but those problems are usually resolved quickly.

I was stationed in Italy from 1999-2002, and lived on the Navy Support Site at Gricignano for about the last year of it. I had DSL there provided by the local phone company, and had no problems with it. But that was when the place was new - frankly, the Mafia-owned contractors who built the place were shoddy, and the place might be falling apart by now.

I didn't see any signs of Navy censorship, either (rolls eyes). Even if they were doing that, Navy tech is pretty good - it wouldn't slow down the e-mails.

Their technologically is not behind us, its just depends on the site and location of your relative. Also keep in mind per your statement that e-mails coming out of a navy base is more than likely screened before it is processed out which can also delay responses.

Stan
I've found that internet access isn't as available in Italy as it is in the US. Email - if it's only text (not huge attachments) - isn't going to be limited very much by anything except very slow mail servers specific to your relatives location.

Probably a mil-spec ARPANET server from 1975 that crashes every night.
