i'm from naples and i can tell u: dont listen to everything you hear in tv or from newspaper, if naples was as they describe, it 'd be empty... and that's not.

naples has one of the best view of the world, when you'll arrive to the port (mergellina, or central port), go to via caracciolo, is near the sea very close to the port, and it's a spectacular place, then go to posillipo, or via petrarca (you need taxi, but it takes 5-10 min), or go to piazza municipio where there is citysightseeing station, and u can reserve a tour around the city, it costs about 18€ and there are 3-4 different tours, i advice the line who arrives in via petrarca, if you aren't go on your own.

you could see piazza plebiscito, and historical center, a walk in chiaia neighborough, and, if u can go to vomero (another neighborough on a hill).

excepted for posillipo and via petrarca, you can go by walk or with public transp. everywhere, it's everything quite close and concentrated, as things to see, and as shops.

pay attention to not have much money with you, pay attention with the camera, and pay attention generally.

for more infos, ask everything.

Naples is an amazing city. I went there in July. It's known for it's mafia and pickpockets. It wasn't a problem for me, just don't have all your euros sticking out of your pocket. The mafia don't harm civilians, particularly tourist. It'll just get police after them, and it doesn't help them at all. As long as you don't act like an idiot, it's not a problem.
There's plenty of things to do and see in Naples, the castles, the ruins of Pompeii. Be sure to get a pizza! I had the best pizza of my life in Naples.

Take a boat out to the Isle of Capri and enjoy the island. While there, taste some Limencello, see the blue grotto, ride the fannicula.

good advice from above...

naples is a city of great contrast... and as withany city in the world where there is poverty there is crime... just be streetwise..

lots of things to see around naples, don't miss pompei...
