I use the venere.com site for booking hotels here in Italy. They have a large database. You can use a map to sort for a particular district in the city you're interested in and then sort by price, guest rating,... http://en.venere.com/italy/. The site has a lot of reviews by previous guests to get an idea of what to expect from the area, the hotel, and the staff.
Personally, I would recommend staying in Sorrento rather than Naples. Pompeii is on the Circumvesuviana train line that runs between Naples and Sorrento. There are also frequent boats to Capri. The Hotel Antiche Mura or Hotel Il Faro are both good choices there.
If you do stay in Naples, the Jolly Hotel Ambassador or Hotel Executive in the old town near the port are reasonable. You'll need to take the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii to see the ruins regardless of where you stay in Naples and there are boats to Capri within walking distance. If you're interested in Pompeii, you might also want to go to Herculaneum which was also buried by the eruption of Vesuvius.
Pompei it's in the middle between napoli and Sorrento 1/2 hour by train to both of them, if i can suggest you anything, right now it's better for you if you go to sorrento, it's charming and very beautiful. Napoli is one of the most beautiful city in the whole world and because right now is having some problems I wouldn't like you to have the wrong impression.
