We stayed at a hotel called 'The Raphael' a few years ago that was just off Piazza Navona - really incredible location. I don't know how expensive it is now with the bad exchange rate with the euro, but it's a nice hotel.

dinodino
Hotel San Francesco in Trastevere, it's across the river but near everything and the two main tram lines have stops a block from the hotel. It's in a converted monastery

Sicilian Princess
The Marcella Royal Hotel is a small boutique hotel not far from the Termini. It sits on a very quiet street, away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. It's about a 10 minute walk from the Baths of the Diocletian and the Piazza Della Repubblica.

I found this hotel, Relais dei Papi, 161 Via dei Gracchi
3rd floor, Rome 00163, on the internet and was impressed But when I got there I was more than impressed. It is a sweet little hotel about 1 mile from St. Peter's, 8 rooms on one floor, 3 floors up. Therefore, quiet. Beautifully decorated small bedrooms, warm and inviting, bathrooms small, all new fittings. Breakfast was more than adequate.

We went last year and I picked up a post on Yahoo answers which recommended the Mercante Palace Hotel which is pretty central.

We stayed for 4 days and it was perfect - the staff were nice, breakfast was included and the location was within walking distance of the main sites - the Vatican is a taxi ride away.

Enjoy Rome - it is fantastic!

The Grand Beverly Hills Hotel in Rome is centrally located and close to all the major sites. Went off season and got a good rate. Clean and more importantly, the location.

Very close to Termini station and the underground station of both line
It's a 4 star hotel not very expensive. More opr less 100/150 euros a night with a big breakfast.
