Off the beaten path spots in Italy?

Ciao! My husband and I will be in Italy for 9 days in September. I studied in Florence and spent almost 8 months in Italy at that time. My husband has also been to the major cities. We plan to spend a few days in Rome, and a few in Florence. I loved Cinque Terre and we may go back there. I was wondering if anyone had other suggestions for must see places that are less well known. Also please recommend hotels if you loved one. Thanks!

North of Rome there is an old town near Viterbo. It is the most amazing place you have ever seen. It is like visiting the 19th century once more.
See the link for photos of Bagnoreggio. Do yourself a great favour and go see this astonishing place. Words from me can never describe what I saw the day I visited.
