Opinions on Lake Garda, Italy please?

Names of decent hotels would also be much appreciated. Thanks

Lago Garda is the largest and cleanest of the Italian lakes. It's a great place to visit. There are small towns all around the lake with ferry service on the water, or the bus to get around the lake. There are castles in a several of the town and roman ruins.

Sirmione and Malcesine are particularly nice in my opinion. I live about an hour south of the lake. Your best bet for a place to stay might be Desenzano or Peschiera del Garda because both have train stations making it easier to visit Verona, Padova, Brescia, Mantova, or whereever else you might want to go. Sirmione has good bus and boat connections to both, so that's also a good choice.

Hotel Eden in Sirmione is a great place.

You can check hotel options at http://en.venere.com/italy/lake_garda/ I use them for hotels in Italy frequently and have always been happy with the result. You can pick hotel locations off the map if you want, and sort by price, hotel class, rating by other users or other criteria.

The hotel city is pretty good in Desenzano - close to the lake. The Hotel Europa is right across the street from the lake.
