Parking in Milan and Florence.?

I plan to stay in Bologna for 6 days and drive out to do some day trips. Two of which will be to Milan and to Florence. Will I be able to park the rental car?

In Milano I suggest to park at Cascina Gobba and take the Metro to the center, is far from 20 minutes and is more comfortable that drive to the center and search parking there.
In Florence you can park your car at the Parterre and go to the center by foot is about 10/15 minutes depend where you want to go.

Both the parking are paying but with not much euros you can stay relaxed and enjoy yourself with sightseeing.

You can park the car in both Milan and Florence but it will be costly.

There are areas in both cities where vehicles are prohibited. Parking in public ramps is about 2-3 euro/hour where in private ramps it can be anywhere from 5-10 euro/hour. In both cases you can park at the city's train station in a ramp.

A car is nice if you are taking a day trip into the countryside. But for trips from Bologna to Florence the easier, faster and cheaper way would be to take the train. Check out the schedule at www.trenitalia.com

Not in Florence. Driving a car into the historical city center is very strictly regulated, you will need to park the car out of the city and take the bus. Parking is a real problem in Florence, so I highly recommend taking the train from Bologna to Florence.

In Milan you can park where blue and white lines are. blues are paying and whites are free (but you won't find any! :-)
To park within the blue lines you have to buy a ticket from a tobacco shop (yes, that's it) which you can recognize by a big white T on black b/g, and scratch out the time of your arrival. i think it lasts one hour but you can buy several and place them side by side in your car.
Anyway, train is definitely better unless you need to reach non central areas.
