Paying for trenitalia fines? |
This happened several days ago when I was riding the Leonardo express to the Fiumicino Airport from Rome Termini Station.
I obviously thought that my Eurail pass (2nd class youth) would be valid for the train but the conductor told me that my Eurail pass is "no good" and I will have to pay a hefty fine of 61 Euros. The problem was that I did not have 61 Euros in cash at the time and told him that I could only pay by credit card or at the station after I exchange some of my US currency.
After hearing that he just took my passport number and left! I stopped him and asked how I should pay for the fine at the station but he talked back in Italian which I did not understand at all.
When I arrived at the airport I quickly went to the information center to ask how to pay my fine but the guy kept on telling me that I cannot pay for my fine because I did not receive any slip for the fine.
Am I being fined or not? If so how should I pay for it? Will trenitalia send me a bill or something? |

Forget it.
I guess the man on the train took your passport number just as a formal justification for the other passengers, but you'll be never fined. |

It's a shame that people who works for a public service which is used by many foreign people cannot speak English and be helpful.
I don't know how they will proceed with this, it seems they only have your passport number. I hope this didn't ruined your whole trip to Italy. |

It's Italy!!!!
It's normal that nobody speaks English, we are like this, we just don't care.
When things like this happen in Italy you just have to say that you will pay, without worrying.
Can you imagine if Trenitalia is going to spend money and time (let's not forget that somebody will have to WORK for it) to find you and ask you 61 stupid euros???
Take it easy, come back to Italy and just don't care!!! |
