Places to visit in Italy in 2 weeks?

I'm traveling to Italy for about 2 weeks. Please suggest top places to visit, mostly ancient ruins from the Roman empire and other famous stuff.. not so big on museums and galleries.

Where can I find information on group tours and multi-day trips?

thanks!

City hopping can be done by train www.trenitalia.it but don't forget the extension of Italy (i.e. Roma-Venezia 6hrs, Roma-Milano 4,5 hrs).
Choose Eurostar trains (faster) and tariffa Amica if available (non refundable but discounted). Be aware there might be union strikes.
Sightseeing is ok but some museums are a must! (i.e. Musei Vaticani in Roma)

According to me, for your taste, don't miss
Roma, Firenze, Venezia (top)
Napoli, Milano, Pisa (2)
other great places: Torino, Palermo, Verona (3).
on the go: Mantova, Parma, Siena, Bologna (4).

A couple of weeks example itinerary from north to south:
Milano, Venezia, Firenze, Pisa, Roma, Napoli.
rember always ask for local food specialties.

About group booking I dunno, but if you consult Lonely Planet, they'll give you a hint. Also it is fairly easy to make friends with some local to be shown round.

Benvenuto e Buon viaggio!

if it's ruins your after the bay of naples and rome would be your best choice..

naples has the sites destroyed by the eruption of AD79 and capua, the second largest roman city after rome. also a short train ride away are the greek temples at paestum.. a word of warning tho' don't go in july or august as the heat is unbearable

and rome is well rome capital of the ancient civilised world.. forum colloseum, pantheon and much more

buon viaggio

I'm Italian and I think that visit Rome and Milan is a good choice... IF you can you MUST visit also Firenze ...

venice is a deffinite i never regret goin there so many beautiful resturaunts on the water omg freakin gorgeous hunny

when you get to rome, ask for a map of roma, it shows u all the attractions u need to visit.

also, put aside two days to visit firenze, u can go there by train (will take u 3 hours), from firenze u need a day or two to visit veniz and then return back to rome.

to get tourist guides, i suggest you go to
http://www.muchulu.com/
click on GUIDES, and then click on italy,,,u get helpful information there.

for train, you can book it through muchulu, but i think if you book through trenitalia, it will be cheaper (it is a economy train).

You cannot miss Tuscany. The majority of the Italian monuments are there, and the countryside is "Word heritage site" of UNESCO!

If you plan to spend some days in this wonderful region, to visit Florence, Siena, Pisa, San Gimignano, Lucca ..... and to enjoy the unforgettable countryside while tasting the typical wines, I suggest you the lovely apartments "Il Romeo", website:
http://www.vacanzainchianti.it
They are nice accommodations in the true heart of Tuscany: located on the Chianti hills and in key position to visit the majority of Tuscany cities.

bye
