Southern Italy is where my familys from and thats where I always go when I go to Italy. Salerno is where I go. Not exactly salerno but that area. Now it depeds on what you like. If your lie me and love the beach anywhere on the Amalfi Coast would be great, even better the Cilento Coast which is after the Amalfi which is where I go. If you want a specific place with no tourist at all theres a town called Acciaroli its my town. Its amazing there and its so beautiful. If you do image search on google or yahoo you wil see some pics of it that are kinda good but not really I got a bunch of pics from when I was just there recently though. Also theres Capri Im sure youve heard of it. There are alot of hotels here too well at least for the size of the town that are right on the beach.

this site has some pretty good pics of it:

http://www.cilentocase.it/en/towns/cilento/acciaroli.shtml

this is the towns website:

http://www.acciaroli.it/

just search it and youll find alot about it

i hope i helped you answer your question

Apart from Matera which I think is really one of the most beautiful cities of the world, I'd recommend you to visit Puglia cos it's GORGEOUS, such a deep blue crystal-clear sea, typical little towns... particularly, I LOVE Gallipoli and S. Maria di Leuca... they are wonderful!! Only, it's really cold down here... and the beach is sooooooooo sad when it's cold and there's a grey sky!! :)

South of Brindisi, in Puglia (the "heel"), you'll find uncontaminated waters in certainly where tourists hardly ever go. It's not overdeveloped, in fact it's hardly developed (for tourism I mean) and so you'll find a part of Italy that is still very real.

Capri is nice...as is the Amalfi Coast (which is breathtaking), especially a little village on the coast called Positano. It's tucked away but a real treasure.
