Planning a holiday to Sardinia? |
I am planning a holiday for next year to Sardinia. I want to go for 10 days in June. Have read a lot about the island on previous questions and it sounds a beautiful beautiful place, inhabited by wonderful people.
I don't want to stay in one place and would much rather hire a car for the entire holiday and drive around without any planning and stop at places that I like, bars with accommodation etc. Just wondering if anyone else had done this and found it either great, or difficult without prior booking etc.
I just love the idea of spontonaeity(?), fitting in with the locals, eating what they do, drinking what they drink. My girlfriend lived in Italy for 10 years and is fluent, so communication should not be a problem. I am learning to speak Italian as much as I can as I think this only polite to do, and don't want to feel left out. Any ideas gratefully recieved. |

june is a perfect period. And sardinia is wonderful.
people of sardinia arent so openmind and nice, so i don't know if it'll be possible to go discovering their life.
Anyway, the location, the period and nr of days are ok.
I recommend north sardinia, is good forbidden, wonderful places and beaches, and with a car is ok.
try the little country "santa teresa di gallura" and stay there, it has one of the best beach of entire italy:
http://www.sweetsardinia.it/NuoveImmaginiSardegna/santa_teresa_di_gallura_residence_i_mirti_bianchi_la_renna_bianca.JPG
and it is one of the cheapest and beautiful place.
from there, you can go to Porto Rotondo, porto cervo, you can go on the road and easily find a place where spend your day.
from santa teresa, leave boat for am half-day journey in Island of Spargi, Island of Budelli, and La Maddalena... DONT MISS THEM!!!
the first two, arent inhabitated, and so let image the colour of the sea...
in santa teresa, dont miss "valle della luna" it's an incredible place: http://www.sweetsardinia.it/NuoveImmaginiSardegna/santa_teresa_di_gallura_residence_i_mirti_bianchi_la_renna_bianca.JPG
in valle della luna, dont forget to bring sports shoes, because there'll be to walk on mountains over the sea.
for any other info, dont hesitate to ask |

My family and I lived in Sardinia for two years and loved it! We actually lived on the very tiny island of Lamaddalena..Have to drive to Palau and catch one of the ferries over..Only about a 15 minute ride but well worth it..The beaches are beautiful. The food is the best. the gelato is wonderful. They also have some really good shopping in the main piazza..Have a great time! |

If you will go to Sardinia you must visit Stintino , La Maddalena, Alghero and Porto Cervo.
These places are situated in the north of Sardinia, south is also beautiful, but is more quiet than north.
I could reccomend in Alghero the Florida Hotel, (Alghero is situated in north-west and from Alghero departure the little ferry to visit the "Grotte di Nettuno" ...very beautiful!!!!!!!!). |

While spontaneity sounds like a fun way to go, you need to know that during some periods Sardegna can be very full and doing this will be extremely difficult. If you're planning to come during the peak tourist seasons, I would strongly recommend that you book in advance. In early June, you might be okay, at the end of the month there are likely to be more people. Although I've done what you're proposing many times in the past in other countries, I've always booked at least a couple of days in advance when I go out exploring here in Italy.
You'll love Sardegna - definitely worth a visit. |
