Planning a trip to Sicily and don't know the best places to visit. Any ideas?

Heard a lot of good things about Sicily, but don't know really where to go.

Sicily is amazing, and I am jealous you are planning a trip. Taormina is beautiful with views of the sea and Mt. Aetna (assuming it isn't cloudy like when I was there). A great little town to stroll around and the Roman theater in the hillside is breathtaking. I also really enjoyed Syracuse and the little island of Ogygia connected to the city. It has been populated for thousands of years so there are different sights and sounds all over the place. My favorite city was Agrigento, with the valley of the temples and AMAZING shopping. We also stopped in a tiny city called Gela because they had good ancient ruins and a very nice ancient art museum. Selinunte was a cute seaside town with gorgeous beaches, but we were there in the off season so we didn't get the full feel for the city. Enjoy your trip!

I visited Noto, Syracuse, Catania, and Messina. On my next trip, I want to go to Palermo and Agrigento (to the Valley of the Temples).

I'd suggest getting a good travel guide like The Rough Guide to Sicily and read about a few different places. I'm sure you'll find plenty to see on your trip!

Buon viaggio!

...My favorite place to visit is the Mafioso Wax Museum in Palermo. Oh, and don't forget to visit the Cosa Nostra National Museum, especially the Frank Nitti Armaments Gallery, the Luciano Sculpture Gallery (it's mostly busts though) and Al Capone Library of Medicine and Taxation. Then pop across the street to the little Meyer Lansky Distillery. They serve some great bootleg scotch.

you are gonna have so much fun!! Palermo is amazing, beautiful city. Go to Monreale just outside Palermo. then the church of Cefalu. Make sure you see Taormina and Argigento for ancient ruins, Syracuse and Ragusa and you can finish in the cosmopolitan city of Catania. if you have time take a ferry over to Malta or even Tunisa.

Have a great trip!

It all depends on how many days you are going to stay there and in which period of the year.

If you'r coming in summer and staying ten days I suggest:

Palermo, Monreale, Cefalù, Tindari, Taormina, Catania, Noto, Agrigento then Trapani to get a ferry boat to Favignana isle.
Back to Palermo you can choose to go to one of the Eolie's isles or to the nearer Ustica.

Have a wonderful trip.
