Just show up at the train station. The trains run very regularly and the stations as all very easy to navigate. I know the Florence station has (and I think Pisa too) automated machines. Click on the British flag for English then follow the steps to buy your tickets. Very easy and convenient.

I only know about the train from Florence to Rome because I was trying to find out the same thing recently in case we had to book them in advance (like the eurostar etc)
I was speaking to my travel agent, and we discovered the trains come very regularly so there was no need to. He recommended the websites
