Yes, last year, but I couldn't see everything: lots of the ancient houses were closed for restoration. Anyway, it has been interesting.

The house of the two brothers that is still relatively intact. There are many frescos on the walls. There are large boulder type rocks in the roads so when it would rain you'd be able to walk across without getting your feet wet. You can see Mt Vesuvius in the near distance, it's quite impressive when you can see the devistation it caused to Pompei and Herculanium'.

The reason a lot of fruits and vegetables and dairy products (from the grass) taste so wonderful it's because the ash from the volcano still remains in the soils even after all these years. If you've never been to Pompeii, it is really fascinating!!

I've been to Pompeii several times. I live north of Bologna and when there are people here visiting for business one of the places they frequently want to go is Pompeii. We either drive or take the night train for the weekend. As many times as I've been there, it's still fascinating and I see something I had not seen before. The first time I went I was surprised by how large Pompeii is.

Two things you don't know about Pompeii:

1) Lead pipes for plumbing
2) Exaggerated phallic symbols.
