Possible to get from Nice to Cinque Terre by 3pm via train?

I'm staying in Nice for a night and need to get to Cinque Terre by 3pm the following day. I don't want to rent a car and would enjoy the train ride IF we can make it. It's hard to figure out the proper method for purchasing tickets by perusing the various train operator website. Any ideas? Am I safe in hopeing to be able to purchase tickets the morning of? Thanks

There are several options that will get you to Cinque Terre and there will be no problem buying tickets on the day of travel:

There's a regional train leaving Nice at 5:25 am arriving in Ventimiglia (just across the border into Italy) at 6:09 am. From there a regional train leaves at 6:46 arriving in Monterosso at 12:05 pm. This train also stops at each of the other 4 towns in Cinque Terre - it's 18 minutes from Monterosso to Riomaggiore, the last of the five.

You can do the same thing at 6:44 am from Nice and arrive at Monterosso at 12:39. This one has a 15 minute connection time in Ventimiglia. This one stops at Vernazza and Riomaggiore, but not at Corniglia or Manarola. However, there are lots of other options that will get you to either by 3 pm if that's your final destination.

There's also an 8:34 train from Nice to Ventimiglia that connects to the 9:48 train to Monterosso arriving at 2:43 pm. You would have 19 minutes in Ventimiglia with this option. his one stops at Riomaggiore at 2:52 pm, but not at the other three towns.

There's a train at 7:51 from Nice which can get you to Monterosso as early as 1:25 pm, but you would have to change trains in Venitmiglia and twice in Genova. Starting from the same 7:51 train, you could get to Monterosso by changing to a train to Savona at 8:58, and from there catch the 11:10 to Monterosso. I wouldn't recommend this since there are several options that require only one train change, but it's possible.

Ventimiglia is a small train station, you won't have any trouble with making connections there.

If you take the 10:05 train to Genova, you arrive at the Genova Piazza Principe station. You'll need to take another train from there to the Genova Brignole station and transfer again there to connect to Cinque Terre if you want to get there before 3 pm. The first direct train from Piazza Principe doesn't get you to the Monterosso station until 3:02 pm as someone else already told you.

Hello - I traveled from Monte Carlo to the Cinque Terre and it was easy. The train comes from Nice, leaving there are 10:05am. Arrive Genoa 1:06pm, change trains. Depart Genoa 1:47pm, arrive Monterosso 3:02pm. The is the largest of the Cinque Terre Towns. From there you catch the local train to all the Cinque Terre towns, which are all about 5 minutes apart from each other. Depending on how many other train trips you plan to make, a rail pass might be a good deal. Rail Europe.com is good. Keep in mind you can't book trains more than about 60 days in advance. You could just buy the tickets in Nice, since it's cheapest that way.
