We did a private tour of the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel and I would definitely recommend it for several reasons.

1) If it 's your first visit, the tour guide will give you the "highlights" - the "must see" artwork.

2) Our tour guide enhanced the tour experience by giving us information and detail that was not available in the guidebooks or the placards.

3) The tour guide kept us moving and didn't allow us to linger. While we wanted to spend more time in front of a particular painting, for instance the "School of Athens", the tour guide would tell us "we have much more to see and we want to fit it all in today". Without the guide, we would have seen only about half of what we ended up seeing.

Now, having gone through, I can tell you that I could spend a WEEK in the Vatican museums. I am so glad I went but I want to go back!

However, if it's your first visit, I highly recommend a private tour.

From what I've heard, it's definitely worth it. I've never been there myself, but a couple from Japan I know went there once.

They had an unforgettable experience, and they're not even Catholic.

Probably nothing else, since this is primarily the attraction, as well as it being a residence for the Pope. I doubt you gonna find some clubs there, since Vatican is located inside the city of Rome.

Well this is a problem, but you have to act if you accept it in a ''clever ''way .You try to enter slowly from one side,if you want to avoid all this,i saw people who were doing it...Otherwise you have to wait so long.For capella sistina there is not so much problem, you enter, but even at the stairs you are not allowed to see after having visited so much and you ll be tired.
Bear in mind pictures are not allowed there.
In Vatican i suggest you to go upstairs, there is lift with 7 euros, the view is wonderful, but you get down on feet till a certain level..
Be careful..
You ll wear something closed for Vatican, and short sleeve, not so opened if it is summer.Otherwise you ll not be allowed to enter to the holy place...
Vatican city to eat is ver expensive, better avoid it.But leaving Vatican,dont forget to visit the castel Sant Angelo which is very closed..

Yes, it is worth it. The Sistine Chapel is amazing. Don't skip it. The Vatican Museums can only be appreciated with a guide. You will go past things that are very interesting without the guide. We got there before 8:00 and it was still packed. Our guide knew what to do first. Thank Goodness.

I went to the Vatican awhile back, but I didn't get to see the Sistine Chapel, because it was closed.

I wouldn't say that it is worth it; I spent about 10-15 minutes there and I got to see the whole thing. It was very, very crowded and it was really hot out.

The only positive thing is the architecture.

I've been twice in the Vatican City and I've never seen the Museums. St. Peter's Square and the Basilica are worth enough to pay a visit to the Vatican.

You don't have to be religious to want to see the Sistine chapel nor the other Vatican Museums.
The Chapel is glorious and worth any time you can devote to visiting it. Visit it - you won't regret it if you have any sense of art or art history.

Yes it worth it , prepaid yourself for at least a day of going around the museum inside the Vatican, you will love it

Well, most of Vatican City is closed to the public, but you should definetly go. Some of the most famous artworks in the Western world are in those museums, from the ancient classical period up through the Baroque. Michelangelo, Raphael - all the big names are represented in paintings, sculpture, and fresco. The Sistine Chapel is absolutely amazing. Raphael's frescoes in the library - breath taking. You can't not be amazed by what is there. And Saint Peter's is going to blow you away - there's markers on the floor showing the size of major cathedrals from all over the world, each of which would fit inside the church. You could easily spend all day there and not see everything.

One thing to do is to visit the Scavi, which are excavations under St. Peter's Basilica. You must make a reservation (E-mail: scavi@fsp.va). Also, of course, St. Peter's Basilica itself. The tour lasts around 90 minutes.

The Museums themselves will keep you busy for several days if you want to see them all.

christmas befor last we went to florence and rome and we paid for a private tour(worth it) and we got a tour of the vatican city,colluseam,anciant rome, and a couple of other things

it would be better to do that and it would all be in one day and was sooo worth it.

Yes it's worth it.. but get a guide, you'll understand the history of art. Also climb the copola, it's about 700-800 steps to the top of the church( don't exactly remember) You'll get a 360 view outside of the Vatican... definitely worth the climb

The lines are long, but they move fast. I don't suggest a guided tour. There are so many rooms and so much stuff that after a while everything looks the same and you are just waiting to get to the Sistine Chapel. I recommending getting a good book on the museums and looking up what is most important and then stopping if something catches your eye
