Question about the seats on TrenItalia trains..?

My wife and I were looking to buy a ticket on the Trenitalia trains in Italy and when we get to the part where you are assigned seats, it says "couch, seats 56, 58". Is there any way we can sit next to each other or does this mean that there are only individual seats left now for that train?

Seats 56 and 58 are actually adjoining, being both even numbers; odd seats are in front of yours.
That's the way seats are located on trains in Italy.

I think that you will be next to each other with those seats. if you happen to be facing, it's very common that you ask the person sitting next to you or to your wife, when on the train, to exchange the place so that the two of you can be closer. it is not only well tolerated, but often very welcome, if the seat that you offer is the one facing the direction of the train. a lot of people hate going backward.

Hmmm...interesting. I just went on the site and it used to be that you could click right on the seats you wanted and choose if you wanted to be facing one another or next to each other. Your seats are probably facing each other given the numbers.

My suggestion is that you buy your tickets individually. Purchase the first ticket and then when you go to buy the second ticket, choose the option for buying a ticket near an already ticketed passenger. See if this gives you any better results.

Otherwise, you may want to buy your tickets at the train station or from a travel agent. Not as convenient, I know but if it is that important to you. You can also try to change a ticket you booked on line but that usually comes with a cost.

i live in florence since 2002, i ve been in an out of trains all of my five years here in italy. you purchased a ticket on the Eurostar right? im 90% sure its that one.

usually the tickets there DO give you (for some wild reason) odd or even numbers. and most of the time they do match as how you wanted the seats to be, like in your case, next to each other.

in the Eurostar, you usually are seated in groups of 4, in your number 56 and 58, its definetly for sure that you will both be in that group of 4. either way..IF by any chance you were'nt next to each other, dont stress about it, just sit next to each other and when the person sitting in that seat arrives, simply ask them if it will be fine to exchange seats. most of the time people who use the Eurostar come by themselves (business people) its rare to see a group of people or families going there, maybe in two at the most.

ive been in the eurostar a lot of times and its happened a thousand times where people have asked if they can exchange seats to be next to each or for whatever reason.

good luck on your trip!
and dont worry about it!

it depends on the train type. I think you are next.
odd numbers in a side and pair numbers on other side. I suppose you clicked on a train with 4 seats each side or if it is an eurostar 2 seats in front of other 2 seats.... i suppose naturally.

If you don't see seats together it may mean that everything else is already reserved.

In Italy people don't sit next to each other on the trains like we do in the States you sit across from each other so you can talk its a Europe thing. I live in Italy and it took me time to get use to this you may want to make sure you take either 1st class or 2nd if they offer just because they have AC and not all trains have AC
