Hi There, try the Mecenate Palace Hotel in Rome. The website is www.mecenatepalace.com - I'm a travel agent and have put many happy clients their, including just recently my own parents. The prices there are moderate and my clients enjoy the rooftop garden for breakfast. The hotel is positioned in a great location as well. The hotel also gets very good reviews from travelers on tripadvisor.com - I think this is a great option. Enjoy Rome.

I'll suggest you Eurostars International Palace- via Nazionale no.46. It's a very well located one, just in the middle of the town so you can see a lot of Rome's beauties by walking, with a great breakfast and in a very safe area. BUT.... ask from the beginning a large room, because the rooms are different and......

When in Rome last May, I stayed at the Fellini Bed & Breakfast. It was very centrally located - a few minutes from Trevi Fountain. You can find out more information, including read the whole review I wrote, at Trip Advisor. Here's a link:

Wondering
I know you said not expensive, but you only live once, and you'll be in Italia.

While there, I stayed at the Cavlieri Hilton, which was just beautiful. the service on the executive floor was wonderful. The concierge gave us a tour of the hotel upon arrival. there was a bottle of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries waiting in both our rooms. The spa was a wonderful roman bath -- a wonderful experience!!

It had beautiful views of the city and a Mercedes shuttle bus to the city. It was well worth the expense, and made you feel so good about being in Rome.

Enjoy Italia!!!

I would suggest the Hotel Mariano. I stayed at this hotel in the middle of March. It is really close to the Termini, about three blocks. It makes it really easy to catch busses and subways around Italy. The rooms are getting remodeled. We stayed in room 306 and it overlooked a piazza. This was by far the largest room and shower we stayed in while in Italy. There are a lot of great restaurants if you walk away from the train station. It definitely is not the Hilton, but it is reasonalby priced, clean, new and safe.
