Where ever you happen to be is romantic if you're with the right person.

Venice especially at night or in early morning fog. It's easy to imagine your'e back in the 16th century. Find a secluded restaurant with tables along the canal, take a gondola ride at midnight.

Any of the five towns in Cinque Terre along the Ligurian coast. You can walk the Via dell'Amore along the cliffs between Riomaggiore and Manarola

Ravello on the Amalfi coast was particularly nice. The gardens at Villa Cimbrone and Villa Ruffo are wonderful and have great views of the sea. There are frequent concerts.

Capri especially at night after the day-trippers are gone.- views of Naples and Vesuvius across the bay, the Garden of Augustus, i Faraglioni, limoncello.

The most romantic places are Venice, Rome, Portofino, Sorrento, Capri and Ravello. I live in Italy (Rome) and I've been in all those places :-)

Lake Orta is my favourite though many would probably say Venice - which I would agree with if you could get rid of the herds of tourists there. The Amalfi coast is also lovely and very romantic.

I loved Rome. Visit Colosseo (maybe it is going to be announced as between 7 wonders these days) Fontana di Trevi ( i loved there, specially at night wonderful view)
But the best thing is food.
You should absolutely eat BOmba:) and drink capuccino (they call it capucco:) in the morning.
Pasta, pizza, fish...
If you think that you have eaten pizza before going to italy you are making a mistake.

any city on the Amalfi Coast - Positano, Sorrento, Sargento, Naples, Capri... Southern Italy is the BEST of Italy, in my opinion.

Verona, the town of Romeo and Juliet. With the famous balcony and the tomb of Juliet. The arena where they play operas. The nearby Lake Garda. Very very romantic!

Venice without a doubt, it's such a particular city... and in the night it's just breath taking :) plus you can take a romantic gondola ride (even if they are pretty expensive...)

I live in Rome, and it's a really romantic place, especially in the summer at night (too hot during the day). I've also been to Venice which is romantic too, but maybe for a day, the second day it gets boring. I hear Florence is romantic too. Avoid Milan. Nothing romantic about it.
Definitely Rome and Florence!

Ashwin
I would say Venice.

Felicity???
Take your pick: <*-*>

☻Todi:
For the ultimate escape, the hilltop of Todi, 203km (126 miles) south of Florence, will transport you back to the Middle Ages. You can lose yourself in its tangle of ancient streets and wine-dark alleys. Let the sun shine on you at its central square, where you might seriously contemplate moving and living in a gentler time.

☻Spoleto:
Spoleto is as ancient as the Roman Empire and as timeless as the music presented there every summer during its world-renowned arts festival. The architecture of this quintessential Umbrian hill town is centered on a core of religious buildings from the 13th century. It's even more romantic during the off season, when the crowds are less dense.

☻Bellagio:
Often called "the prettiest town in Europe," Bellagio is perhaps the loveliest town in Italy's beautiful Lake District. Its lakeside promenade, which follows the shores of Lake Como, is fragrant with flowers in bloom. Couples can spend their days exploring the arcaded streets and little shops, visiting lush gardens, and relaxing in the sun.

☻Capri:
Floating amid azure seas south of Naples, Capri is called the "Island of Dreams." Everywhere, you'll find the aroma of lemon trees in bloom. Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius both went there for R&R, and since the late 1800s celebrities have flocked to Capri for an escape. A boat ride around the island's rugged coastline is one of our favorite things to do.

☻Ravello:
It's small, sunny, and loaded with notable buildings (such as its 1086 cathedral). Despite its choice position on the Amalfi coast, Ravello manages to retain the aura of an old-fashioned village. Famous residents have included writer Gore Vidal.

☻Taormina:
This resort, the loveliest place in Sicily, is brimming with regional charm, chiseled stonework, and a sense of the ages. Favored by wealthy Europeans and dedicated artists, especially in midwinter, when the climate is delightful, Taormina is a fertile oasis of olive groves, grapevines, and orchards. Visitors will relish the delights of the sun, the sea, and the medieval setting.
